Kisumu, Kenya: Nyakach Member of Parliament Aduma Owuor has ferried a man alleged to have been attacked by cattle rustlers to Western Regional Coordinator’s office in Kisumu in protest against persisted insecurity in the area.

Aduma who took the man to Kisumu in his private van was however turned away by security officers at the office compound.

The regional Commissioner Francis Mutie and County Commissioner Lorna Odero were out of the office for a meeting with the County Governor and a delegation from Japan on a development project to be launched in the county.

Aduma who insisted on addressing the officers over the matter was however turned down by security officers who referred them to Central Police Station where they recorded statements over the incident.

The injured man had already stitched panga cuts on the head.

Robert Ouko, a resident of Nyakach was attacked at his home on Thursday night by suspected cattle rustlers in his compound.

“I heard some commotion outside my house and got out to check what was happening. That is when they (suspects) attacked me with pangas,” said Ouko.

Last year, the Nyakach legislature ferried a dead body with arrows to the office of the Regional Commissioner on a similar protest.

He was later charged with disturbing a dead body.

The MP has been in constant disagreement with area police bosses over what he termed the officers’ tolerant to rampant insecurity in Nyakach.

“We will not keep quiet and watch our people killed by cattle rustlers and the security of our property at stake yet security officers are awake,” said Aduma.

Kisumu County Police Commandant David Ng’etich blamed the MP for his act saying it was demeaning efforts of the police in performing their duties.

“We have proper channels of communicating issues. Taking a patient to someone’s office is not that palatable,” he said.
