Teams plan for looming drought

The National Drought Management Authority at the weekend held contingency planning with sector representatives in north Pokot.

West Pokot County Drought Coordinator Gabriel Mbogho said the meeting discussed measures to be taken in case the drought crisis in the area worsens.

He disclosed that the current drought situation in the northern parts of the county had reached the ‘alert’ stage.

 “In the contingency plan, the authority is expected to upload documents displaying planned activities that would be carried out in case of a foreseen disaster, which is accessed by the national office and the Drought Fund,” he disclosed.

In the past, he pointed out, request for funds were made after disasters, occasioning delays in its disbursement.
