A father and son are feared to have drowned at Ndaka-ini dam in Gatanga district during an illegal fishing expedition.

Police said Dominic Wafula (50) and his son Lucano Wanyonyi had sneaked into the dam for illegal fishing.

Tragedy occurred soon after  5pm on Thursday evening, when Wanyoyi  collapsed in the waters following an epileptic attack as his father followed to help save him from sinking in the waters.

Yesterday, Murang’a Administration police Commandant Mr Josphat Kinyua said the two have not been traced  as a team of divers assisted by the local community have been camping at the dam.

The matter was reported to Ndaka-ini police post where the officers organised a search mission to help save the two.

The rescue mission was called off following darkness before the locals yesterday woke up to continue with the operation.

Ndaka-ini dam that supplies water to Nairobi county and its environs has remained a protected area but errant residents have been sneaking for swimming and fishing expeditions.
