Kerugoya: A sombre mood engulfed the Kerugoya Catholic Church during the requiem mass for the four family members brutally murdered inside their house on the night of Jamhuri Day.

Hundreds of mourners thronged the venue to grieve the loss of the entire family of a former judicial officer Cedric Kunyu. Mr Kunyu and his wife Jane Mwende, both aged 33, their two children Adelaide, 10, and Griffin, 6, were hacked to death at Miringa-iri estate in Kerugoya town.

Kirinyaga County Woman Representative Winnie Karimi said residents were tired of the many killings and kidnappings in the region.

She urged President Uhuru Kenyatta to intervene like he has done in other areas of the country hit by the wave of crimes.

She took issue with the manner in which suspected criminals are arrested only to be released on very soft bonds despite the magnitude of crimes committed.

Njiru Ndegwa wondered when the seemingly senseless killings will stop.
