Judicial Service Commission files suit seeking to bar Aaron Ringera tribunal probe

Nairobi, Kenya: The Judicial Service Commission Monday filed a suit in court seeking to stop swearing in of tribunal formed to probe six suspended commissioners.

The commission argued that President Uhuru Kenyatta acted unconstitutionally and should have sought the advise of the Attorney General. The AG is also a member of the JSC.

The suspended commissioners are Ahmednasir Abdullahi, Rev. Samuel Kobia, Prof. Christine Mango, Justice Mohamed Warsame, Emily Ominde and Florence Mwangangi .

The President named Retired Justice Aaron Ringera as chairperson of the tribunal with Jennifer Shamallah, Ambrose Weda and Mutua Kilaka as members.

The tribunal was mandated to investigate the conduct of the Commissioners and determine whether there are sufficient reasons for removal of any or all of them from office.
