Nyeri, Kenya: Four middle aged men who were among people who recently appeared in the media advocating for the legalisation of bhang have been arraigned before a Nyeri court and charged with being in possession of the drug.

Stephene Muchiri, Michael Kahumbu, Alex Ngatia and John Maina are facing separate charges of being in possession of the illegal drug.

The four appeared before Nyeri resident magistrate Vincent Nyakundi and were charged with being in possession of 23 rolls valued at Sh420.

They were arrested by police on September 30.

The accused denied the charges and were each released on a bond of Sh 150,000 with a surety of a similar amount or a cash bail of Sh30,000.

During the case, about 10 dreadlocked young men all donned in cloths marked in Rastafarian images and colours sat quietly in the courtroom following the proceedings.
