Gideon Moi sues businessman over land

Nakuru, Kenya: Baringo Senator Gideon Moi has sued a Nakuru businessman over a prime plot of land situated in the town.

Moi has sued Jayen Dodhia at the Lands and Environment Court in Nakuru seeking to stop him from claiming ownership of the parcel of land (Nakuru Municipality block17/61) situated in Milimani estate.

Moi alleges that he acquired the land through a lease agreement with the Government in November 4, 1990 and has been paying Sh26,000 per annum. The senator claims that Dodhia illegally entered the parcel of land - which the Senator says he never sold - and started fencing.

On August 7, Justice Lucy Waithaka issued orders temporarily restraining Dodhia from trespassing, disposing and interfering with the land pending the hearing of the suit.

Moi wants the court to issue a permanent injunction restraining Dodhia from interfering with his lease over the plot of land.

Dodhia, however, in his response says he is the lawful owner of the land after he purchased it from Albert Kipkosgei Lesonet on August 1, 2009.

Dodhia insists he lawfully acquired the parcel of land after paying Sh6.5 million.
