Explosives seized in a bus destined for Mombasa

Nairobi, Kenya: Police in Nairobi Wednesday morning seized 400 pieces of explosive devices in a bus headed to Mombasa.

The explosives sent by a man Wednesday had been loaded into a bus as a parcel disguised as books.

Central OCPD Patrick Oduma said the man who sent them is at large and the explosives were recovered before the Channia bus could take off.

Oduma added that the parcel had originated from Tanzania and that the motive of transporting them had not yet been established.

Police say they are investigating a terrorism angle and a known suspect who sent them.

“We have contacts of the sender and the receiver and will look for them to know the motive. In this era of terrorism we will not let it go like that because there could be terrorists behind it,” said Oduma.

Police are holding the bus driver for questioning.
