The fall of dictator Omar al-Bashir now means that Africa is left with eight strongmen who have held a grip on their countries for over two decades.
They are Teodoro Obiang Nguema of Equatorial Guinea who has served for 40 years, Cameroon’s Paul Biya (37), Uganda’s Yoweri Kaguta Museveni (33), Chad’s Idriss Deby (28), Isaias Afwerki of Eritrea (26), Denis Sassou Nguesso of Congo Republic (34), Paul Kagame of Rwanda (21) and Ismaïl Omar Guelleh of Djibouti (20).
