Her obsession with Valentine’s Day is sickening!

Dear Roxanne,

I have been with my girlfriend for three months now and this will be our first Valentine’s together. Her expectations for the day are quite worrying.  As it happens, I am her first boyfriend and she is putting me under so much pressure to give her a memorable Valentine’s. She has been dropping hints of what she expects every now and then. I like her, but I don’t have the financial capacity to make her dreams a reality. I haven’t had a moment of peace since she started this Valentine’s obsession. She has been telling me what her friends and their boyfriends have planned and she expects me to top them. She is driving me nuts and honestly, I feel like disappearing until this Valentine’s madness is over. What do I do? Peter.

I know Valentine’s is synonymous with chocolates, candle-lit dinners and sparkling presents. But usually, it is the thought that counts.

Don’t go breaking the bank for 24 hours of bliss. There are plenty of inexpensive ways to make sure that both you and your girl enjoy the day to the fullest.

The reason that your girl is going overboard with the Valentine’s craze is because you are scared to tell her that you can’t really afford to meet her expectations.

It is okay to admit that you are struggling a little bit. If she is a genuine girl, she will understand. She might even offer to chip in with the expenses.

Do not kill yourself over it. Talk to her and you will wonder what you were so worried about in the first place.
