Energy CS Chirchir, Wasanga deny involvement in ‘Chicken’ scam

NAIROBI, KENYA: Energy Cabinet Secretary Davis Chirchir and former Kenya National Examination Council CEO Paul Wasanga Friday maintained innocence over the chicken scam before the Ethics and Anti Corruption Commission (EACC).

Chirchir called on any one with information about the scandal to present it to EACC.

He said that he has never met any of the two directors recently jailed by a London court over the saga. “I am innocent and any member of the public with evidence should give it to EACC,” he said

Former KNEC boss Wasanga arrived at EACC headquarters by 8 am and also denied allegations that he received a bribe in 2010 from Smith and Ouzman directors to influence certificate printing tender.

Wasanga says he learnt about the scandal from media reports . He says the firm won the tender through competitive bidding “I am innocent and call for more time to be given to EACC to complete investigations,” he said.

EACC alleges that Wasanga received Sh710, 000 a year. The payments were allegedly made directly to Wasanga once during a trip to Oxford and also through a fixer to facilitate the deal.
