Kudos to athletes for good performance

Congratulations are in order for the Kenyan athletes who took part in the just concluded IAAF world championships.

Once again, they have exhibited their prowess and put Kenya on the world map.

This was a shift from the daily politicking that Kenyans have become accustomed to lately.

Kenyans are used to triumphing in the world athletics, but clinching the first position overall was no mean feat.

More congratulations should also be extended to Kenyans on social media for their moral support.

That notwithstanding, it’s sad to note the response from the Kenyan government towards the team. Were it in other countries, such a feat could have led the president to call for a national holiday to celebrate the heroes and heroines.

It is time the Kenyan government came up with a way to honour and recognise the Kenyan sport heroes and heroines, not only with publicity through the media but also through financial support.

The Government should also put up an athletics academy to nurture new talent.
