Teacher accused of molesting Standard 8 girls

Tension is high at Ngungu Primary School after a teacher allegedly sexually assaulted four Standard Eight girls.

The girls were said to have been assaulted early in the morning on diverse days from the beginning of this term, when they reported to school, according to information available.

A parent claimed the daughter used to leave for school at 5.30am and would be in class before 6am since the institution is near their home.

''I got curious and wanted to know how the children can study that early since the classes do not have electric power connection,'' said the parent.

Contacted, the school head teacher, Wilson Mbui, said investigations have been carried out and a report filed with the Zonal Inspector of Schools as per the procedure.

''After completing the investigations, we decided the teacher in question be relieved of his lessons in the Standard Eight class to avoid any contact with the girls he was accused of having molested.''

Mr Mbui also denied the suspect had had any sexual relations with the girls but claimed he only had used ''love language'' while teaching them.

The County Director of Education, Elizabeth Karani, when contacted, said the girls should write a formal complaint against the teacher.

bureaucratic procedure

She also gave a bureaucratic procedure the parents or the Press should follow to get to the bottom of the matter, even after being reminded that journalists only report facts as they are presented.

''Let these girls write a letter to the said teacher telling him to leave them alone and on the strength of such a letter then we can follow it up,'' she said.

It was not clear if the girls were taken for medical examination after the alleged assault. The parents are demanding the that teacher be transferred immediately before they physically eject him.
