Two girls' schools opened in Narok

The education of girls has received a boost after two girls’ schools were opened.

Suswa Girls in Narok East and Oloomirani Girls in Narok West constituencies were officially opened by the Deputy President William Ruto and Governor Samuel Tunai respectively last week.

Suswa Girls becomes the only girls school in the constituency.

Speaking in Suswa, Mr Ruto challenged the Maasai community to accord girls a chance to go to school, saying the region will only develop if people embraced education.

"The Maasai girl child continues to be exposed to cultural practices that inhibit her from progressing with her education. Retrogressive cultural practices such as FGM and early marriages must be discarded if the girl child is to compete favourably with the boy child,” said Mr Ruto.

Ruto helped the school raise Sh25 million.
