Organiser of first devolution conference 'yet to be paid'

NAIROBI: An event management firm that was contracted to fund-raise for the first Devolution Conference held in Kwale last year claims it has not been paid for services rendered.

The management of Moneva Consulting Company claims it is yet to recover over Sh3 million that was to be paid for the conference that took place at the Leisure Lodge Hotel (who were also custodians of the money raised), even as the second conference winds up in Kisumu today.

Moneva had entered into a contract with the Council of Governors (CoG) for event and sponsorship management to raise funds in form of sponsorships pledges in support of the conference. The firm helped raise Sh15,526,083.

CoG Acting CEO Jacqueline Mogeni says the council has been trying to get money from Leisure Lodge without much success. But Leisure Lodge Executive Director John Mutua denied owing any money to Moneva.

“We don’t owe them any money. Why are they rushing to the media and not to court?” he posed.
