Two MPs oppose bid to dissolve county, want dialogue

Makueni, Kenya: Two legislators have opposed the impending dissolution of the county government.

Kibwezi West MP Patrick Musimba and his Mbooni counterpart Kisoi Munyao blamed the woes on enemies of devolution.

They rooted for dialogue and reconciliation between Governor Kivutha Kibwana and members of the county assembly (MCAs) to save the county from going into the books of history as the first to be dissolved.

"The county government of Makueni cannot be dissolved," declared the two youthful MPs during interdenominational prayers held in Makindu Township.

Dr Musimba (Independent) and Kisoi (Wiper) reiterated that they had nothing personal against Prof Kibwana contrary to claims by some residents.

Kill devolution

"The fight being fought in Makueni is a wider scheme to kill devolution by those who do not want resources to go to devolved units," said Dr Musimba.

Mr Kisoi said those who are dreaming that the county will be dissolved should be ashamed because this will never happen.

"As elected leaders we have said no to dissolution. We urge Prof Kibwana and the MCAs to sit down, talk and forgive each and move the county's development to the next level," he added.

The Mbooni MP blamed the perceived differences between a section of area MPs and the governor on political brokers who were waging war for their own selfish interests.

He encouraged the county leadership to embrace the advice given by President Uhuru Kenyatta and his Deputy William Ruto that they sit down, dialogue and resolve their differences for the benefit of area residents.

And speaking during the burial of the wife of former Mavoko Mayor Peter Mailu, the late Josephine Kavisyo, Mr Kisoi called on leaders and residents to forgive each other.

Kavisyo, a retired primary school teacher, was laid to rest at her husbands' farm in Nzeeni village, Ngoni location in Mbooni constituency yesterday.
