Body of missing JKUAT student found in Mukuru slums, Nairobi after three months of agonising search

Kevin Kahuthia had been missing for three months.

Nairobi, Kenya: The body of a university student who went missing as he left a club along Baricho Road in Nairobi three months ago has been found under a bridge in Mukuru Slums.

DNA tests carried at the Government Chemist show the body is that of Kevin Kahuthia, who went missing on October 17, 2014.

Kahuthia was a fourth year electronics student at the Jomo Kenyatta University of Agriculture and Technology- JKUAT.

By the time of his disappearance, he was an intern at a firm along Mombasa Road.

He and his friends had been at a club along Baricho Road until 11 pm on the day he went missing.

Police suspect the deceased was swept away by raging floods that were experienced the night he disappeared.

Makadara Head of CID Zack Nanguli said the body was found under a bridge near Enterprise Road in Mukuru slums on November 28.

He added that they conducted a DNA test on the body and results had shown it was that of Kahuthia.

"We called the parents and took their samples for tests which have shown it is Kahuthia’s remains. The body was badly decomposed when it was discovered," said Nanguli.

The family was informed of the results of the tests on Wednesday. They demanded further investigations into the incident.

The family had been searching for Kahuthia in the city and had appealed for help from the public. The family led by the mother Rachael Wambugu had even mounted posters on the streets appealing for help.

They also visited the club where the son was before he was thrown out after an argument with the management.

A bouncer at the club was later found with a mobile phone belonging to Kahuthia.

Police said they are still investigating the bouncer.

The bouncer claimed the Kahuthia was drunk and rowdy that night before he was thrown out.
