Tension in Tiaty as 78 cattle shot dead allegedly by security officers

TIATY, KENYA: The Military led Security operation in Baringo County to recover stolen guns from slain Administration Police officers has taken an ugly twist following the killing of hundreds of livestock.

Tension was high on Friday at Chesakam area in Tiaty after KDF soldiers allegedly shot and killed 78 cattle along Chemolingot- Kapedo road at a grazing field.

When The Standard visited the heavily guarded area, cow's dry blood led our crew to carcases abandoned next to the road a distance apart, a sign that the innocent animals attempt to flee away from the attacker but it was too late.

Five of them suffered broken limbs after the bullets shattered their bones and were left awaiting the knife. To prevent strangers from accessing the place, security officers have erected a road block at Chemolingot- Kapedo junction.

Peter Kama whose animals were among those killed said they were yet to establish the motive behind the shocking raid and urged the government to investigate the incident and bring those responsible to justice.

During the attack, he said powerful explosives were fired at Kariomoshi hills forcing the residents to scamper for safety in different directions.

"It's not in dispute that criminals from this region slaughtered our security officers, but collective punishment directed at innocent and law abiding citizens is what the community want rectified", maintained Kamama.
