Police outlaw night boda boda operations in Bungoma

BUNGOMA COUNTY: Police in Bungoma South sub-county have outlawed boda boda operators from ferrying passengers in Bungoma town after 10pm.

Speaking after a meeting with boda boda representatives, Deputy County Commissioner John Tonui said they reached the decision after finding that a number of motorcyclists were being targeted by criminals.

Mark Kiberenge, the chairperson of a boda boda operators' association in the sub-county, welcomed the directive and urged members to respect it.

"We are tired of burying members every week following attacks by people we carry at night in the belief that they are ordinary customers only for them to turn out to be armed robbers," Mr Kiberenge told journalists.
