Bungoma County Women representative Dr Reginalda Wanyonyi has called on the government to vet all civilians before licensing them to be legal firearm holders.

She called on the government to first withdraw all guns in the civilian's hands and contact fresh vetting to avoid incidences of private gun holders misusing their rifles which can be dangerous to the society.

"The vetting process will ensure that the licensed gun holders do not use their firearms to commit criminal activities, they should instead use it when their life seems to be on the danger to avoid unwarranted killings," She said.

Dr Wanyonyi said that before the government license anybody to be the gun holder it should thoroughly vet them to avoid incidences where innocent Kenyans are injured or killed at will with the legal gun holders who differ with the purported enemies over petty issues.

"The government should sensitize licensed gun holders on how they should contact themselves even if they are wronged by some people, let the gun holders be of sound mind and should contact themselves with decorum," said Wanyonyi.

Speaking on a local vernacular radio station, Wanyonyi blamed the killer of a Kimilili University student who was buried a week ago for using his gun unfairly for the wrong reasons.

She said Mitch Kibiti a Mombasa University College second year student was shot several times on the head when he differed with the owner of Etonia Club Hendrix Waswa who was a licensed gun holder and who is since being held at the Bungoma GK prison remand waiting to take a plea on 23rd September 2014.

Dr Wanyonyi called on the government to vet all people before offering them guns for protection and avoid misusing them by either threatening or killing those people they believe to be their enemies.
