Nandi MCAs, Governor leave for Mauritius on benchmarking tour

NANDI, KENYA: Top Nandi county government officials led by governor Dr Cleophas Lagat are on a tour of Mauritius for a five day benchmarking on development and investment opportunities.

The officials who left the country on Tuesday are on an invite by Mauritius chamber of commerce and industry and will be seeking to explore opportunities that would transform the living standards of residents through exploitation of available resources in Nandi.

According to the county officials, the county government will also be seeking for investors to explore value addition of products in the agriculture rich region.

"The government will use the opportunity to benchmark with Mauritius government on best enterprise and business practices including value addition for coffee, tea, maize, milk, sugarcane and horticultural products, which are the backbone of the economy in Nandi," said Kipkorir Birgen, the director Nandi governors press service.

Birgen said the delegation will also use the opportunity to discuss possibility of venturing into chemical extraction from tea, which is also a main cash crop produced in Nandi.

He said governor Lagat and his team will attend series of meetings including a trade fair and demonstrations in Mauritius, which will present the best opportunity for the share of ideas on issues relating to agriculture and other business activities.

The official who spoke to The Standard said the governor has been accompanied by one County Executive Officer (CEC), a Chief officer and three Members of County Assembly (MCAs).
