Ali Burjra released on Sh5m bond

Lamu, Kenya: The State failed to prefer criminal charges against Lamu businessman Ali Burjra, arrested ten days ago over alleged killing of 60 people at Mpeketoni last month. On Thursday, the State also failed to charge Lamu Governor Issa Timamy who had been arrested over the killings.

Yesterday, assistant Director of Prosecution Alex Muteti said the State did not object Bujra’s release on bond. Justice Martin Muya released Burjra on Sh 5million bond or cash bail of Sh3 million. Burjra was the second suspect being released without charges being prefered agaisnt him. The suspect had been accused of having financed the killers to help him evict squatters believed to have invaded his land.
