Nanyuki remains county headquarters for now

Nanyuki, Kenya: The Laikipia County Government will not relocate from Nanyuki town until a court case is heard and determined, the High Court in Nyeri has directed.

Justice James Wakiaga, during the mention of the case Wednesday, maintained that his ruling dated April 5, restraining the county from relocating its offices, remains until the case is concluded.

The suit was filed by Laikipia County residents who claimed the government intended to move the county headquarters to Rumuruti without consulting them.

Sammy Ndung'u and other residents through lawyer Robert Kimunya claimed the move is unfair because county headquarters is a sensitive issue.

However, the county government argued there has been no construction of other offices and it would take up to two years to move the offices – during which time residents would have been consulted.

Mr Kimunya requested the court to order the respondents to disclose the amount of money spent in the acquisition of the current Nanyuki County headquarters.
