England football Association have been looking for Roy Hodgson’s successor after the three lions faced an embarrassing exit at the Euro 2016 matches.
Reports indicate that Sunderland manager Sam Allardyce will today (Thursday) be named new England manager for a two-year contract, that will see him pocket £2.5million a year.
Wenger rejects deal
However, Allardyce has got every reason to thank Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger after the FA’s pursuit to land the Frenchman had earlier failed.
According to the metro, Arsene Wenger rejected the deal when he was approached by the FA’s three-man bench led by Dan Ashworth, chief executive Martin Glenn and vice-chairman David Gill.
It is reported that Wenger was the FA’s first choice, but he turned them down on grounds that he cannot break his contract with Arsenal.
Allardyce will now be tasked with restoring pride in the England team, who have not reached the semi-final of a major tournament since they lost to Germany as hosts in the last four of Euro 96.
