Leicester will win title as Jamie Vardy has history

Jamie Vardy’s CV is packed with titles and he will add the Premier League crown with Leicester, according to the man who plucked him from obscurity.

Fleetwood chairman Andy Pilley paid £150,000 to sign Vardy for the then Conference club in August 2011.

The striker, who had won divisions previously lower down the pyramid with Halifax and Stocksbridge, then smashed 34 goals to fire them to the title.

His goals and infectious attitude was also crucial when Leicester won the Championship in 2013/2014, with the striker notching 16 times.

Now Vardy’s 18 goals have helped 5,000-1 shots Leicester go five points clear at the top of the Premier League with 13 games remaining after their stunning 3-1 win at Man City.

Vardy, 29, did not score at the Etihad, where fellow key man Riyad Mahrez took his tally to 15 goals and 10 assists.

But Pilley is confident the in-form England striker, who scored in a record 11 successive games earlier this season, can finish in first place both in the league and golden boot.

Pilley told Mirror Sport: “Jamie Vardy wins leagues, whether it be Halifax, Fleetwood or Leicester.

“Leicester won the Championship and it looks like they are going to go on and win the Premier League. It cannot be coincidence. I really fancy Leicester to get over the line.

“Jamie’s desire and work-rate becomes infectious to the rest of the team and having that is such a powerful ingredient.
