Mourinho set for talks over two-year Chelsea contract extension

Jose Mourinho will hold talks over a new contract after clinching the Premier League title.

Chelsea plan to step up negotiations on a two year extension to his £12m-a-year deal to take Mourinho up until 2019.

It also indicates Chelsea owner Roman Abramovich is happy after Mourinho clinched the title and the Capital One Cup this season.

A new deal has been in the pipeline but negotiations have been put on the back burner while Chelsea concentrated on clinching their first title in five years.

Mourinho has already made it clear that he wants to stay at Chelsea for the long term after his first term ended suddenly and badly.

But Mourinho said after Chelsea clinched the title on Sunday that he wants to stay for as long as Abramovich wants him and it seems clear he will put pen to paper soon.

Mourinho said: “I stay here until Mr Abramovich wants me. The day he tells me to go, I go. He is the man who won every title at Chelsea – some players did some, others did others.

“Same with managers. Mr Abramovich won it all. If he has replicas, he needs a big house.”

Mourinho insists Chelsea's success compares with the others he won in his first spell in charge and says his desire to succeed is as great as ever.

When asked whether he will win and create more history, Mourinho said: "I will try. I will try for another one. It doesn't matter (to me), but I will try always.

"The day I don't feel that passion to try to do it again, I stop. I don't feel that day has arrived.

"Every title is a consequence of hard work and a reason to be happy and proud. I can't evaluate and say which was one more important. This was my last title and I try to get another one.
