The match between AFC Leopards and Tusker went on after all with the brewers winning 1-0 at Nyayo Stadium yesterday.

A last minute intervention by AFC Leopards management, and a well-wisher convinced players to honour the Kenyan Premier League match.

AFC Leopards chair Allan Kasavulli gave the players Sh20,000 each to convince them to honour the match which remained doubtful until Friday. The well-wisher donated Sh80,000.

Kasavulli later announced that a fund-raiser will be held on May 13, 2015 as a stop-gap measure to assist the club pull through their financial challenges until a permanent solution is found.

Back on the pitch, Leopards came out strongly in the early minutes of the match that was played under a drizzle.

Emmanuel Ngama got the first chance to put Leopards ahead after just 11 minutes but he blasted wide Jacob Keli’s effort. With the pitch slippery due to the drizzle, both sets of players found it difficult to control the ball. The brewers were not as threatening, at least not in the opening minutes of the game but a 22nd minute free kick outside the Leopards’ back line was to separate the two sides before half time.

Kevin Kimani took the free kick well and Joel Bataro in goal could do nothing to stop it as the ball went through his hands for Tusker’s goal.

The goal only seem to rejuvenate the brewers who resorted to put the ball on the ground as the rain had subsided and with it got a few chances to extend the lead.

In the 30th minute, Jackson Saleh sneaked behind two Tusker defenders but was stopped by Farouk Shikhalo in the brewers goal and Leopards had to be content with a fruitless corner.

Two minutes later, Tusker also had a chance to score when Osborne Monday picked out Humphrey Mieno and the latter should have scored as his markers hesitated thinking he was in an off-side position. Mieno headed just wide.

In Muhoroni, the home team edged Western Stima 1-0 in a match that was marred by ugly incidences.

Nigerian Abbas Akiyemi scored the only goal for the hosts by striking from the penalty spot to ensure his side got all the three points.
At Awendo Green Stadium, Sony Sugar were too good for Chemelil Sugar, winning 3-1.

Andrew Asembekwa scored the opening goal for Sony in the 10th minute but Daniel Muhati equalised in the 72nd minute.

Sony Sugar then scored two other goals through Meshack Muyonga in the 80th minute and Kennedy Oduor in the 85th minute.
