How masquerading in Eldoret for Valentine's was great

Masquarades in Eldoret

The thought of Eldoret town paints the picture of athletes breaking international records, guards of mursik; nothing close to the heavy showbiz lifestyle that is known to dictate night life in Nairobi, Kisumu and Mombasa.

How many celebs come from Eldoret if we may ask? No, sorry, we will rephrase that; How many celebs have you seen during the cultural Kitwek night?

Well, you will be forgiven for thinking that Eldoret is dead, entertainment speaking, as it is one of the leading towns with vibrant night life, cool joints and guys to hang out with as witnessed last weekend.

Besides, masquerade parties have always been synonymous with posh venues in Nairobi and though not a favourite with many revelers, they have grown in stature in recent times.

While the rest of the country went into a Valentine’s excitement with dozens of events targeting lovers, Eldoret pulled the biggest move of the weekend with a 200-guest party that was as successful as they come.

Set up at the lush Palace de Villa grounds within the leafy, secure and exclusive suburb of Elgon View Estate, things were all pulse beat.

Organised and hosted by the savvy creative agency Aviva Consultants Limited, the party broke barriers as the organisers pulled every move in event organising to ensure the first attempt was not a miss. “Aviva Consultants is in the business of creating exclusive and unique events for our clientele,” a director was heard saying.

“So when we conceived the idea to host a masquerade, it was naturally a done deal.”

The company imported the Venetian-inspired masks from Guangzhou, China, as they thought the masks already in Kenya were of inferior quality.

The eager guests, who started trooping in as early as 6pm, Saturday, did not disappoint either as they turned up decked out in their finest and latest fashion ensemble.

Sequin-trimmed gowns and long flowing chiffon evening dresses were in show, while the men were looking dapper in dress shirts topped with dinner jackets.

“We did not spare any expense in making sure that our guests were going to be treated to an incredible night in terms of entertainment, VIP status and security,” the director explained.

By 7pm, the party was already in full swing. Guests were ushered to a poolside reception by dashing hostesses. The gardens, where a sumptuous buffet awaited, had been transformed into a glittering spectacle of lights, smoke machines and flame throwers.

Music was also very urbane, with local music, Afro House, Naija, Disco and Electro Dance Music entertained guests courtesy of DJ Genious and DJ Barry.

Eldoret being hottest urban place that side of the Rift Valley, the night was not complete without a traditional music set courtesy of Moseh Drumist Entertainer who dazzled with his drums.

Revellers left at the wee hours of the morning having experienced an event of its kind, with most acknowledging that there was need for more of such events.

Aviva Consultants Limited has declared its intention in ensuring Eldoret and neighbouring towns step up in showbiz, with a number of events lined up across the year.

Eldoret is just one of the towns that has seen an immense change in the showbiz scene. With Nairobi, Kisumu, Nakuru, Machakos, Naivasha and Mombasa already frontrunners, other town are pulling all the strings to entice revellers.

And now, Pulse has its eyes on Kisumu! Can we get another rap!
