Police: Trader presented himself to us and said he had killed his wife

Police in Njoro, Nakuru County are holding a man who allegedly stabbed his wife to death after a quarrel.

The victim was a part-time teacher at Ogiek Secondary School.

Area OCPD Kegode Kidiavai said the businessman was locked up after he presented himself at the Njoro Police Station and told the officers he had killed his wife.

“He said he had stabbed his wife with a penknife after an argument,” Kidiavai said.

The suspect said he and the woman were married in 2011 and had one child before they separated in 2013.

“I met my wife soon after she completed her secondary school education and we were blessed with a daughter. We separated in 2013 but our parents advised us to stay together for our daughter’s sake,” read the suspect’s statement.

After staying together for some time, the man enrolled his wife at Mt Kenya University, Kakuru campus, where she had been studying until her death.

“According to the man’s statement, his wife sent him a photo of a white man on mobile phone application WhatsApp and claimed they were dating. This provoked him and he attacked her with a knife,” said Kidiavai.

Elsewhere, a 60-year-old woman was raped and killed by unknown people at Kwa Amos trading centre in Engashura, Bahati.

The body of Mary Njeri Wanjohi was found dumped in a maize plantation a few metres from her home.

Edward Ndung’u, a resident, said the victim, a business woman, was well-known in the area.

“We have received the news with a lot of sadness. Initially, we saw people gathered at her farm. Some of us did not know what was happening until we were told what had happened. From the look of things, the woman was raped before being strangled,” said Ndung’u.

He urged the police to enhance patrols to ensure that security is enhanced in the area.

“There is a gang that has been terrorising the residents of this area and stealing from them. We want these criminals, including those who killed the woman, to be brought to book,” he said.

Nakuru North OCPD Edward Masibo said the woman might have been waylaid after closing a food kiosk she operates at Hodi Hodi trading centre.

“We received the information from a passer-by this morning,” said Masibo.
