Good old consistent Kenya Power

Counties

Power lines

I am convinced someone in my hood pissed off some senior honcho at Kenya Power. Reason? As I write this, my hood has not had power for over 12 hours, the second day that is happening.

The first of course was some day that rained and the good people at Kenya Power decided to be consistent, and off went the lights and my evening news with it.

But consistency is good. My mathematics teachers in primary and secondary school used to think it was important for a student to be consistent.

Although I am sure they were just exasperated by my behaviour.

Anyway, the chaps at Kenya Power get an A for consistency, and that is a rare thing in a country where public land disappears and no one is sure who the ghosts erecting fences are.

My guess is you just here grunts of invisible people mixing mortar and in the morning you see a whole fence standing where there was none yesterday. The kind that you touch to confirm if it is real or you were just dreaming.

So it is a good thing that you can rely on the agency that brings light to your home to remain consistent. That way, whenever a day is cloudier that usual you get a candle in advance, dust off your torch and prepare for darkness when the rain comes calling, or even if it doesn’t.

Back to my original statement, the people we pissed off in our hood might not necessarily be big shots. It may be a desk clerk, or a sweeper. Some sweepers can be powerful, ask the city fathers why firing ghost sweepers is difficult and they will have tales that would be right at home in Crazy Monday.

Anyway, whoever we pissed off is being mightily passive aggressive. He gets up and flips some unseen switch just when the news highlights are running before the main bulletin. It is like he knows you are waiting to see the faceless land grabbers, and he just wants to rub it in your face how powerless you are (pun intended).

They behave like those friends on Facebook who post passive aggressive posts because of something you did, or did not do. Like a pissed off girlfriend who just wants to get back at you.

So instead of confronting the offender they do sneaky stuff like post twisty quotes, or flip the switch as you settle your behind on the couch to watch the day’s news, and then laugh into their palms as you grope in the dark for your mulika mwizi phone.
