Kenyan State officials trained on e-procurement

NAIROBI: Treasury has trained over 600 procurement, finance and ICT officials from different State corporations on e-procurement.

Wednesday’s training session was the first in a series of sessions being undertaken by the IFMIS Department of the National Treasury that will run through to Friday. The training sessions are aimed at prepping the corporations for the rollout of the IFMIS e-procurement system.

The IFMIS Department will follow up the three-day training with in-depth training and support once the system is deployed to the State corporations.

The training targets procurement, finance and ICT officers, who will be the primary users of the system. IFMIS e-procurement will significantly change the tendering process by speeding up process and enhancing accountability and transparency.

“This is a system that will improve the speed of procurement, provide better oversight, transparency, accountability and governance,” said Mutua Kilaka Principal Administrative Secretary National Treasury when he opened Wednesday’s workshop.

The rollout of the system will be the final phase of getting all government agencies to use the automated e-procurement platform.

“Almost 40 per cent of our budget goes to procurement and it is thus essential to take a look at how we are spending this money,” said Ochieng.
