Dangote team meets Kitui governor, pledges to partner in mining

Kenya: Nigerian tycoon Aliko Dangote and Kitui County government have agreed to explore mineral resources to spur economic growth of the county.

Dangote's emissaries, Ado Dangote (brother) and Muneer Khan said the support and confidence they received from Governor Julius Malombe and his government was surety that the partnership was built on trust.

Speaking when they paid the governor a courtesy call in his office at Tanathi Complex, Ado and Khan said there were no monkey tricks or back door manipulation and they will all read from one page.

"We want to declare that we are very proud to be associated with the Kitui County government and in extension the people of Kitui. Our pledge is to work with you as partners to help our people in raising their living standards," Ado said.

Work together

Khan said Dangotes would follow the laid down procedures, rules and regulations by the county government in undertaking the project in Kanziko location, Kitui South constituency and work together with the local community liaison committee to avoid unnecessary conflicts.

"We will ensure that everything that happens on the ground in Kanziko is by the community, with the community and for the community. No back door dealings whatsoever. What happened before is now history today," Khan said.

Malombe welcomed the gesture from the investor and gave assurance that the national resources will be extracted for the benefit of the people.

"The initiative will create job opportunities for our people. Our schools, roads, health facilities and many other development projects will gain from the Corporate Social Responsibility component when the works start," the governor said.

Malombe said the project will go a long way in transforming lives and social standards of the residents.
