There's no such thing as an ugly man, whether rich or poor

Living

Folks, let’s face it. Money is what attracts women to men. Beauty (which is a very subjective quality), on the other hand, is what men look for in women. The rest is noise!

However, human beings are big liars. When you ask them what they look for in a mate, they always give a very long list of desirable character and personality traits.

Same way male peacocks endear themselves and show off by spreading their colourful feathers to attract females, men splash money at beautiful women for love or lust. And it always works.

Gone are the days when men used to charm women with the depth of their knowledge, intellect, honey-coated lyrics, talents, great sense of humour and whatnot. Today, my friend, if you want to easily woo a woman, better have a fat wallet.

In this hard economic times, any honest woman — who knows you can’t pay rent using a hug nor buy food using a peck — will confess that an Mpesa message is more romantic than a love text from a man.

Nowadays, if you are a beautiful woman or a rich man, your spouse doesn’t care that you are a night runner, witchdoctor, thief, rapist or bandit. In this jungle we live in, you could be catastrophically ugly, but if you are rich, women will still find you ‘hot’. They always have something nice to say like, “awww he has awesome finger prints”! or “Wow, he has a nice shadow!”

The simple reason is that society, sadly, judges women on basis of beauty and men by how much money they have. On average, women have better looks and men have more money. Differently put, women are ‘poor’ and men are ‘ugly’! Painful, but very true.

Little wonder then, that, women spend more time trying to look good and men on the other hand making more money. I mean, when was the last time you saw men participating in a beauty contest? Instead, they always toil, burn midnight oil and dream of featuring on World Richest Men list.

But men, cunning as they are, have turned tables and made society to believe there is no such thing as an ugly man; they are either rich or poor! Look, if men were to put a high premium on wealth (like women do) when searching for a partner, they would find none. Same with women if they were to care so much about looks in their search for soul mates.

Come to think of it, ever wondered why men are seemingly offended by the idea of female bosses or women earning more than them? Well, they feel threatened because their only lethal weapon — money — in the competitive game that’s dating or battle of the sexes has been acquired by the opponents.

Nowadays, given to choose between a rich husband and a well-paying job, a good number of Kenyan women will pick the former. As for men, beware! Being ‘ugly’ and ‘poor’ at the same time is a big scandal. No sane woman will give you a second look. And I am not even blaming them; it’s their nature.
