Oshwal Academy Nairobi has introduced a vocational programme in its senior school to enhance students' chances for higher education and employment.

Business and Technology Education Council (BTEC) qualification is recognised the world over for its practical skills, real life learning and engaging experience designed to meet the needs of modern-day employers.

According to Geetika Saxena, the Deputy Head of Senior School at Oshwal Academy Nairobi, BTEC offers a stimulating course structure that blends subject theory with practical application. "Alongside A levels," she added, "BTEC is the most widely-recognised qualification for admission to higher education."

Dr Saxena said BTEC will initially start with sports and exercise science, Business and Information Technology before being rolled out to other subjects.

BTEC equips students with the specialist knowledge, practical skills and the understanding they need to progress along their chosen learning and career paths. At Oshwal Academy, BTEC will enrich the A level curriculum in line with the school's strategic plan, she said.

Assessment includes real-world tasks, tests, research, essays, projects, investigations and experiments.
