A few days ago I reported here that Kenyan clubs are on their own when it comes to cheerleading in this tournament. Well, Kenya Ports Authority (KPA) were forced to cheer United States International University (USIU) without ceasing on the final day of the tournament.
USIU were taking on Uganda Christian University(UCU)who earlier had edged KPA.The Uganda side had come strong in the championship and would have been a great threat to the dockers if they had won their final battle with USIU.
The dockers soon invaded the stands and vehemently cheered USIU in the match. The cheers worked like magic as inspired USIU got their groove back and won the crunch encounter 57-53. It was hard to tell who the winner was between KPA and USIU after the final whistle, for each side celebrated their own victory.
KPA celebrated the trophy while USIU celebrated their ultimate qualification for the final tour in Maputo, Mozambique.
Tanzania Basketball Federation President John Bandie has urged Tanzanian clubs to go for young players in order to be very competitive in regional championship. Bandie said the reason as to why Tanzanian clubs performed poorly at the Africa Zone V Clubs Championship which they hosted was due to age factor and lack of proper preparations. “Apart from being so poor in finishing, age has caught up with most of our players especially in the JKT Stars that honestly needs young blood. The clubs have wealth of experience but the players are no longer swift on the court,” said Bandie.
