Nzoia United moved closer to next year's Kenyan Premier League (KPL) after they defeated Agrochemicals 1-0 in Sunday's Super League match in Bungoma.

With that win, Nzoia, who are coached by former international Bernard Mwalala, remain at the top of the log with 61 points.

With more than 10 matches to go before the season ends, Nzoia cannot afford to rest on their laurels as the title race continues. Nzoia captain Vincent Ngesa scored the only goal in their weekend win as they registered a double win over the visitors.

Second-placed Nakumatt suffered a 1-0 loss to Vihiga United, who are third. Nakumatt now have 52 points, while Vihiga have 49 points.

Nakumatt defender David Naftali scored an own goal, which handed Vihiga the maximum points.

Kariobangi Sharks are fourth with 47 points, although they have a match in hand. They did not have a fixture at the weekend.

In other matches played at the weekend, KCB, who were relegated from the KPL last season, defeated Modern Coast 1-0 with John Odhiambo scoring the all-important goal. Nairobi Stima and Oserian, who were both at home, maintained winning ways.

Oserian upset Ligi Ndogo 2-0, while Stima beat Wazito 1-0. Prior to their win, Oserian had not tasted victory in 13 rounds of matches.

Despite playing at home, Bidco United lost 2-0 to MOSCA at Thika Municipal Stadium, while Shabana, who are last in the standings with nine points, lost 1-0 to FC Talanta.

Palos will host Nakuru All Stars tomorrow at Moi Stadium in Kisumu.
