Bastian Schweinsteiger's former team-mate Lukas Podolski hit out at Jose Mourinho

Former Arsenal striker Lukas Podolski has hinted that Bastian Schweinsteiger could be set for a move to the MLS.

Podolski, who played with Schweinsteiger at Bayern Munich gave an interview in which he spoke about his future plans and revealed he could head to America with his former Germany colleague.

Jose Mourinho has left Schweinsteiger out in the cold since he arrived at Manchester United and the World Cup winner clarified late last month he would not play for another European club.

That has left the 32-year-old, on around £200,000-a-week at United, with the prospect of no first-team football until January at the earliest.

Speaking to Bild , Galatasaray forward Podolski said: "I think America is great. Moving abroad is good for personality development and it would also be good for our children.

"Clearly it would be possible to play with Schweinsteiger in the States. What happened to (Schweinsteiger) is unfair.

"It is not correct to deport Basti to the second team. A coach must always keep the doors open to all players."

It was revealed in July that Schweinsteiger was training with the United Under-23s yet he has not been considered for selection as an over-age player in any of their Premier League 2 fixtures so far this season.

The German made 18 Premier League appearances for United last season after joining on a three year deal from Bayern.
