Nairobi Governor Evans Kidero is the latest to declare his desire to vie for the presidency in 2022.

Dr Kidero, who yesterday expressed confidence that he will recapture the gubernatorial seat in the next year’s General Election, said his eyes will be fixed on the country’s top job come 2022.

“It is just a matter of time. When I am done with my two terms as stipulated in the law, the only seat remaining is that of the country’s top leadership,” he said.

The governor urged Kenyans elect leaders who can change their lives and not to vote for people who have no convincing manifestos but who hide behind tribal curtains.

“It is evident that many leaders want positions, but unfortunately some are out just to have them for their own benefit,” said Kidero.

Mombasa Governor Ali Hassan Joho and his Kakamega counterpart Wycliffe Oparanya are some of the other governors from the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) camp who have said they will vie for the presidency in 2022.

Kidero was speaking yesterday during the Westlands Women Roundtable annual meeting at Kenya Teachers Technical Trainers College in Nairobi. This is part of the Joyful Women Group led by Rachel Ruto, Deputy President William Ruto’s wife.

The event was attended by Westlands MP Timothy Wanyonyi who also expressed interest in becoming Nairobi governor in 2022.

“If Kidero will be going for the top seat then I am presenting myself for the gubernatorial seat for 2022,” said Wanyonyi who will still be seeking re-election as MP for in 2017.

Wanyonyi said Parliament’s term should not be extended. “All we need is just a clean voters’ registration and have the elections In August (next year) as scheduled,” he said.
