Machakos Governor Alfred Mutua has given striking doctors in the county 48 hours to resume duty or face disciplinary action.

Dr Mutua, while touring the Machakos Level 5 Hospital, said those who would not return to work will be viewed to have absconded and human resource measures will be undertaken.

He added there was no paralysis at the premier hospital and that other county hospitals and health centres were functioning well.

"We will be advertising for more doctors and other health workers in line with my pledge to provide world-class health services to the people of Machakos," said the county chief.

The doctors' strike that began on Monday was triggered by a decision to suspend the Kathiani Hospital medical superintendent.

Mutua said doctors who will not resume duty will not be paid.
