Kitui women group dares governor's rivals to strip

Kitui Governor Julius Malombe

Kitui County's women umbrella body has dared a rival group to go ahead and strip in support of disgruntled Deputy Governor Peninah Malonza.

The women told Ms Malonza and her supporters that they were not afraid or intimidated by their threats to strip and stage demonstrations outside Governor Julius Malombe's office.

Daring the few "trouble-makers" to make good their threat was county Maendeleo ya Wanawake chairperson Ruth Mulandi.

"We will return fire for fire. We shall not sit and watch as a few turncoats try to spoil Mr Malombe's development agenda and plunge the county into chaos," Ms Mulandi said.

The chairperson, who led a caucus of women drawn from the eight sub-counties, dismissed the deputy governor's claims of humiliation under the governor. Mulandi said her organisation was aware of the plans to disrupt the governor's development plans.

The deputy governor has broken ranks with her boss, accusing him frustrating her.
