Keep off dispensary land, Kakamega Governor tells trader

Kakamega Governor Wycliffe Oparanya

Kakamega Governor Wycliffe Oparanya has warned a businessman against claiming ownership of a community land.

He dismissed Richard Momanyi for alleging that a community dispensary was constructed on his land. Mr Momanyi claims Emaira Community Dispensary was constructed on his land.

But Mr Oparanya said he donated the land to the community for the construction of the dispensary.

He said the European Union (EU) had declined to fund the project unless the land was registered in the name of the community.

The governor said he donated the land out of goodwill to enable locals access healthcare services easily as they previously had to travel all the way to Mumias East.

“I bought the land Marama/Lunza/705 from the late Dr Harrison Matendechere. And because my constituents were suffering walking long distance to get medication, I decided to donate one acre for the construction of the dispensary, which is expected to serve 5,000 people from the neighbourhood,” said Oparanya.

He said Momanyi’s land was registered as Marama/Lunza/1826 and wondered why the businessman was claiming to own Marama/Lunza/705.
