Kanu Chairman Gideon Moi has criticised the Jubilee government for “unfair dismissal” of high-level public officials from the Rift Valley.

On Thursday, Gideon cited recent removal of David Kimaiyo as the Kenya Airport Authority (KAA) board chairman and Kangogo Yatich as KAA acting Managing Director.

“Let us protect our people in national government and civil service. We have seen Kimaiyo unfortunately removed, Yatich is also out. When we have our people in government it is an asset for the community,” the Baringo Senator said.

Gideon, who also called for unity in Rift Valley, asked leaders from the region to pressurise the government not to remove their people from high-level jobs.

He asked the government to deliver its promises to the Rift Valley, dismissing leaders who have been telling the region to wait for 2022.

“When we raise issues affecting the region we are told to wait for 2022. We want the fruits now, not 2022. We want roads, health, and youth employment,” Gideon told the residents.

He maintained that Kanu was in Jubilee coalition and will chart its own course after the end of the current term.

The senator was speaking while handing over a Sh6.6 million cheque for the purchase of land in Kaptana, Eldama Ravine, for construction of a Sh200 million milk processing plant.

He urged farmers’ co-operative societies in Baringo County to join hands with the county government to raise funds to complete the project.

“All leaders from the county should help us complete this milking processing plant, which will benefit all farmers. I urge all co-operative societies to also contribute so that they can be shareholders. This project will uplift economy and livelihoods,” Gideon said.

Baringo Governor Benjamin Cheboi said the county government will contribute Sh20 million towards the project.

“We want to help farmers to increase milk production. The milk production in the county has increased to 50,000 litres,” Cheboi said.
