Hundreds of Maragua residents Friday planted banana stems and tree branches along the Nginda-Gikomora-Kaharo Road to protest its poor state.
The residents, led by boda boda operators, paralysed transport along the 30-kilometre road that links Maragua and Kigumo sub-counties.
They accused the county government of neglecting the road despite several promises to upgrade it and the road being earmarked for tarmacking. “We are dairy and horticultural farmers and we cannot reach the markets when it rains,” said Paul Chege, a resident.
The irate residents said the road serves various facilities, including schools and hospitals, which are difficult to access, especially during rainy seasons. The residents said most projects initiated by the county government in the agricultural sector cannot be implemented without proper road networks.
