Homa Bay Cleric in custody for beating son over Sh10

A Legio Maria cleric from Homa Bay County is in court after he allegedly assaulted his 11-year-old son for stealing Sh10.

Pastor Vincent Odhiambo is said to have kept the money, which was part of the day’s offering, in the house.

The 30-year-old preacher is said to have committed the offence at his Kojwang’ village in Ndhiwa Sub-county on May 19, 2016.

He denied the charges and was remanded after failing to raise the Sh100,000 bail.

Missing Cash

His case will be mentioned on June 7, 2016.

The prosecutor told the court that the preacher got angry after he discovered that Sh10 was missing from the church’s collection for the day, and suspected his son was responsible for the missing cash.

The police further indicated that Mr Odhiambo pounced on the boy with blows and kicks, injuring him in the process. The lad was rescued by neighbours who heard him scream, the prosecutor added.
