Three killed, several wounded in western Kenya in IEBC protests

One person was killed in Kisumu protests while several others sustained gunshot wounds and roads were barricaded as demonstrators engaged police in running battles.

Similar anti-IEBC protests have been witnessed in various towns in the country including Nairobi, Mombasa, Siaya and Kakamega.

Two people were shot dead in anti-IEBC protests in Siaya and Governor Cornel Rasanga condemned the killings while visiting the wounded in hospital.

Several CORD supporters in Nairobi were dispersed by police as Suna East Member of Parliament Junet Mohammed was arrested over the ongoing protests. He was arrested at Mbagathi Way and is being held at Kilimani police station.

The protests in Kakamega town led to the arrest of Senator Boni Khalwale who was leading anti-IEBC demos in in the area as protesters were matching to the electoral body’s offices. He has since been released on a personal bond of Sh100,000.

Anti-riot police officers have been alert in the affected towns to disperse protesters as well as maintaining law and order.
