Kenyan journalist to go on trial for murder

Journalist Moses Dola accused of killing his wife five years ago.

Nairobi, Kenya: A journalist accused of killing his wife five years ago has a case to answer, a court has ruled.

The High Court yesterday ruled that the prosecution had proved its case beyond any reasonable doubt against Moses Dola, who is accused of murdering Wambui Kabiru.

Mr Dola will now have to defend himself against the offence that was allegedly committed in 2011 in Umoja estate, Nairobi.

Earlier, the prosecution through State Counsel Catherine Mwaniki had told the court that 16 witnesses had testified to establish a legitimate case against Dola. “The accused’s conduct was that of a guilty person, he presented himself to the police after disappearing for a while. The prosecution has therefore established a prima facie case and he can now be convicted because the evidence presented is truthful,” Ms Mwaniki said.

She added: “The evidence is clear and Dola lied about the whereabouts of Kabiru immediately after the incident.”

Justice Weldon Korir heard that the bedroom of the accused was locked and he denied Ms Kabiru medical attention. Mwaniki added that the medical examination confirmed that Kabiru, who was a presenter at NTV, was hit with a blunt object.

Mwaniki submitted that the prosecution’s evidence was consistent and it’s clear that after the incident happened, Dola called Kabiru’s parents, informing them he had killed their daughter.

The prosecutor added the two journalists had a child and the accused disappeared, leaving the child with the house help.
