Three preachers from Eldoret accused of stealing a car have been released after the complainant withdrew the case.
The preachers, Solomon Macharia Ndung’u, Dickens Kahindi Chengo and Maurice Okumu Odongo of Kingdom Impact Celebration Centre, were accused that on November 12, 2015, at Pizza Gardens, they stole a blue Toyota Premio valued at Sh500,000, the property of Anthony Njoroge Njuguna.
On the alternative charge of handling a stolen car, the three were accused that on December 29, 2015 along Waiyaki Way, they were found in possession of the unlawfully obtained motor vehicle.
The three were also accused that on November 12, at Pizza Gardens, they stole from the motor vehicle a logbook, driver’s licence, passport and laptop, the property Anthony Njoroge Njuguna.
According to the complainant, he had parked his vehicle on November 12 outside his house, only to wake up and find it missing the following day. He reported the matter to police.
The car was recovered more than a month later after it was intercepted at Kabete where the three preachers were arrested.
At the police station, the preachers - who were headed to a mission in Thika - claimed they had hired the vehicle from another preacher in Eldoret and were not aware that it was a stolen car.
While the main suspect is still on the run, Njuguna told the court that he has forgiven the three because they were men of God.
