Kirinyaga: Man hacked to death in front of wife and son

Kirinyaga, Kenya: A farmer was hacked to death by unknown assailants who ambushed him on Sunday evening. Kariuki King'ang'i was in the company of his wife while taking their son to Kabare Health Centre when the incident occurred.

A witness said the couple was walking to the hospital and on reaching Ithareini-Gatunguru junction, they spotted a motorcycle with two passengers moving at a slow pace. "After walking past the motorcycle just a few metres away, one of the three men jumped from the motorcycle and struck Mr King'ang'i with a metal bar on the head. He fell down unconscious," said Njiru Karani, who was passing by.

Mr Karani said King'ang'i's wife and child ran away screaming while the three assailants hacked him with machetes, leaving him for dead.

Kirinyaga East Sub-County OCPD Mohamed Huka confirmed the incident and said the matter was being investigated. Locals claimed a bitter land dispute could have been the cause of the murder.
