Only Kenya Defence Forces stand between National Boxing League champions Kenya Police and slots to the African Olympic qualifiers.

As the national trials get underway at the Modern Fitness Gymnasium in Mombasa from Thursday, Police coach George ‘Foreman’ Onyango said they can not underrate the KDF team as they fight for slots to the qualifiers.

“We know KDF are serious participants, who are a threat to our ambitions of landing as many slots as possible,” Onyango said.

“However, we have not had enough time to prepare for the games due to the Christmas holidays, but I believe the few training sessions we have had together will work in our favour,” Onyango, who is also the Boxing Association of Kenya treasurer, said.

He said KDF must be respected since they are former league champions and have some of the most experienced boxers in the country.
