Police are investigating an incident in which a cancer patient was found murdered in his bed at the Kenyatta National Hospital, Nairobi.

Comas Mutanga, 42, was Sunday found lying dead in his bed long after he had been killed. Police were called by the hospital security after Mutanga was found in his bed with a wound on the head, apparently from a blunt object.

Kilimani OCPD Peter Katam said they have launched investigations and would take action when they know what or who killed him.

"Preliminary findings show he had a wound in the head inflicted by a blunt object. We are looking into all possible angles to know motive and those behind it," said Katam.

A patient who was sleeping on the bed next to Mutanga is said to be deaf.

Katam said the patient did not hear anything or witness the murder because of his state.

Mutanga was admitted to the hospital on November 5 and later moved to ward 8D and later 8C where he died.

His family was called to the hospital Sunday morning and informed of the incident that had happened hours earlier. They spent the better part of Sunday at the hospital.

Katam said they intend to review CCTV footage of the ward and hospital as part of their efforts to get the killers and motive.

The police also intend to conduct a post mortem exercise on the body on Monday or Tuesday to establish the cause of the death.

A team of detectives arrived at the scene, photographed it before moving the body to the KNH mortuary.

The hospital officials did not respond to our calls. KNH is the biggest regional referral hospital.
